My computer has been acting wierd the past two days since I uninstalled most of the programs. It continuously tells me when I start up that a missing driver needs to be installed, and when I try to detect the driver it comes up with nothing and I cant keep it from popping up at start, it refuses to stop. Any suggestions?

I only know XP so i hope this solution helps. There is a program on Windows called System Restore. If you know how to use it then reset your comp back to before you uninstalled those items. Then pay close attention to what you uninstalled. Make sure you restart your comp every time you uninstall something so you know of it happens again. If you do not know how to use System Restore, then post what operating system you have and im sure someone can tell you how. I use this every time i make a mistake.

In fact reformatting will probably make the problem worse, due to the fact that its driver related and windows is asking for a driver that he does not have, even when he reinstalls windows he will still need the driver for whatever it is he is running.

1. Look for the name of the device 2. Google: " Driver" 3. Profit! When you here all the people complaining about Vista not being able to auto-detect drivers, some people tend to forget XP never did such a great job either. Just look for the driver yourself, especially when on Windows 7/Vista 64bit versions installing the drivers yourself is way better, auto-detect usually just installs semi-compatible drivers.

The driver issue could be bad hardware, corrupted software, or possibly some spyware. As always I will suggest an upgrade to Windows 7 as that fixes a lot of potential problems. The auto-detect drivers works a lot of the time when you plug in a device 9 times out of 10 the "New Hardware Installation" popup will come up and install it automatically. If it didnt do that it can't find the driver and u have to do what Adante suggests. There is a program we use at work to determine all the hardware (make/model/serial) on a machine. Its called Everest and you can get a free version here http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181 It should be able to tell you all your hardware and u can google specifically the one thats missing. Thats your best shot. If that doesnt work its either bad hardware or corrupted software. Which means either ur buying some new stuff or you need to reformat. Good Luck

Its an unknown device it says, I right click and unistalled the device in the device manager. I'm going to see if that worked. Thanks for all your help guys. Update: That was a quick fix that should have been obvious, goes to show I still can learn about computers. Thank you to thieving six and all of the others for offering their advice.
