Hello Unknown Soldiers!

I hope everyone is doing well! I'm just popping on here because I'd like some help with my first rig build!

Here is a link to my original parts list: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/ykZ2LD

Here is a link to a post I made on PCBuilder to get more opinions and see if I could get the price down: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/forums/topic/223855-long-time-gamer-first-time-builder-canada

One fellow suggested this build: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/fVp3XH

Let me know what you guys think; what you like, what you don't. I'm open to most changes but i'd like to keep it around the $1200 (CAD) mark.

I think this rig https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/fVp3XH could be better if you downgraded the motherboard to something simpler (you're not OC'ing, are ya?) instead of a Z270 to a Z170 motherboard and with the money difference, you could be getting another 8GB RAM stick. It's going to be imperative to have 16GB in the future. Plus, your system will run much smoother with more RAM, that is for instance, you can play BF1 and have your browser open with 10 tabs that it won't affect your performance. With 8Gb, sometimes it does.

Thanks for the input SA!

I was thinking about the downgrade to the motherboard. I'm not overclocking. I think I will probably do that in order to get that extra 8gb of RAM. I have had a suggestion to go to a 1070 instead of a RX 580/GTX 1060, but I might have to adjust my budget if I want to fit that in.

Looks like a solid build to me. I looked for things that I would change but it just came down to personal preference.

For example, I would have cheap-ed out on the case and put that extra money towards a 1070, but that case is pretty cool with the extra sound insulation so I see the value in that decision.

What monitor do you have?

If you are not pushing BF1 at a crazy resolution and you dont desire all the graphical bells and whistles then anything more than a 1060 may not even be necessary.

I disagree about the Ram discussion though. IMO it is better to cheap out and buy 8gb of Ram and then purchase another 8gb later if needed/desired. However if you dont get the MB you actually want and you want to upgrade later, you will have to buy a new MB and lose money trying to sell your old MB on ebay/craigslist/etc. But I absolutely agree that if you dont plan to OC then there is no point spending a lot of money on a MB.

SrA, I think that if you're building a rig you won't want an update so soon. Given how games are being shipped out these days, the next releases will require 16gb for smooth gameplay. RAM ain't expensive so why have a massive headache with it in the very near future anyway?

Thanks for the feedback SA and SrA!

I have two monitors both 1080p and only 60 hertz max. Would a better frame rate on a 1070 be worth it still even if I can't go 1440p right now?
