Cable systems tend to be fine unless they are over populated which happens in some areas, then they develop bottlenecks and you don't get your money's worth compared to DSL. One option would be to go to a nearby library and try speed testing there or ask a local business owner what they use and why. I use DSL myself, which has been marginal dropping connections sometimes and needing a modem reboot about once a day for reasonable performance. I would seriously consider Fiber Optics if I cared about performance or the price came down. We are paying less than $30 / month for AOL bundled with Verizon DSL.
